Molly's Suds Laundry Detergent & Wool Dryer Balls Review

In my efforts to become "crunchy" and to prevent my family from being exposed to as many toxins as possible, I have found that not all products are really "all natural". In fact, that term is used quite loosely and varies between retailers and manufacturers. In fact, many companies do not disclose their full list of ingredients and how those ingredients are processed or they market their products in such a way that leads us to believe that what they are selling is perfectly "safe".

Needless to say, I was thrilled when I was given the chance to review a product from a company that is not afraid to divulge such information!

About Molly's Suds

Unlike many of the small-business success stories, Molly's Suds was not a happy one. In fact, it breaks my heart to even mention it how this mom-made company came about. The company's creator, through extensive research, created purely toxin-free household products after the loss of her child. To her surprise, she had found that many of our household products contained cancer-linked chemicals...even those that were labeled "all-natural". You can read more here.

What I Love About Molly's Suds

Molly's Suds Is, In Fact, TRULY NATURAL!

Here is the full list of ingredients :

* Sodium carbonate - Purely mined from the Green River Basin in Wyoming, no contaminants or fillers
* Baking soda - Food grade & aluminum-free
* Epsom salt & sea salt - Both are triple-filtered, certified contaminant-free
* Peppermint oil - Food-grade, wild crafted, & organic

Caution : Even though I have mentioned that the above ingredients are "food-grade", I do not recommend actual ingestion of the detergent...

What I Love About The 100% Wool Dryer Balls

There are a few benefits to use wool dryer balls when drying your laundry. Wool is absorbent, so it will pull moisture from cloth, therefore lessening drying time. Additionally, they reduce static, are cloth diaper safe, and soften clothes without the chemicals found in liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets.

As you can see from the picture, the wool dryer balls from Molly's Suds are larger than a couple of the other brands that I own and where more effective. At first they did smell a little like lanolin, but the smell did not transfer onto the laundry. My dryer is quite old, so on average it takes about 35-45 minutes (50 minutes for bedding or towels) for the laundry to be completely dry. With the wool dryer balls, also completely chemical and fragrance free, drying time is decreased by 10 minutes or so.

Performance

Honestly, I have not been happier with any other detergent...and I really put Molly's Suds to the test! The first load of wash included my son's cloth diapers. To be fair, I made sure that the diapers were fully stripped of residue before using the detergent. Because I struggle with extremely hard water where I live, many detergents do not wash off thoroughly. However, Molly's Suds is sodium-based and ultra-concentrated, so it rinses incredibly well (even with hard water!), and leaves no trace of residue - hurray for rash-free baby bottoms! After using this detergent for three weeks straight, I have yet to experience that "filmy" feel on my son's diaper after washing and drying. There was no need to add multiple rinses or strip his diapers...even those made from synthetic fabric, which is notorious for allowing detergent build up!

Besides leaving my son's cloth diapers smelling incredibly fresh (in a good way!), Molly's Suds left my husbands yard work clothes, gym clothes, and our kitchen rags incredibly clean and odor free.

Cost

Molly's Suds is quite a bargain at $21.00 per bag, which washes about 128 loads...so it only costs $0.17 per load. This is about the same price or cheaper (depending on where it is bought) than an oh-so-popular name-brand detergent that many use to wash their cloth diapers that contains 1,4 dioxane (which is not disclosed on the bottle)...even in their "free and clear" version.

Bottom Line

I think I have found a new favorite detergent, and I have been recommending Molly's Suds to everyone that I possibly can. Many of us do not think of the impact of added toxins to the cleaning products that we use everyday. With Molly's Suds, I actually love to wash my family's laundry, not because it actually does a superior job of cleaning, but the fact that I know that I am not exposing them to unnecessary and harmful chemicals.

    Wow. What a sad & incredible story about their beginnings. I'm grateful that this momma took the time to investigate the products we're using & created a safe alternative. Too often when we think about what be harmful to us, we think in terms of what we put in our mouths. This really opened my eyes to all of the other things that our bodies come into contact with.
