As a mom who has taken great interest in the products that my kids are consuming, I have become an obsessive label reader. In result, we do not purchase many packaged products...especially when it comes to snacks.
I will admit that I am not perfect though, there have been times where I have allowed my children to eat chips (the cheesier, the better!, candy, and sugary drinks. In a world were these products are readily available and present in many of their friend's homes, it is almost impossible to avoid them.
Recently, I was contacted by Crunchmaster to review their kid's crisp snacks. I was sent a box of their cheddar Cheesy Crisps and a box of cinnamon & sugar Grammy Crisps.
About The Crunchmaster Products
"Our crackers are made in the USA at our baking facility in Loves Park, IL using only the highest quality ingredients.
We use only pure, GMO free, California grown rice. The sesame seeds used in our products are grown in the U.S. with a special hybrid that was developed to fit the climate in Texas and Oklahoma. Our quinoa seeds are sourced from the Andean region in South America. And our flax seeds are grown in the plains of the upper Midwest and Canada."
What I Love About The Crunchmaster Crisps
These snacks, like all Crunchmaster products are made from the finest non-GMO ingredients. In addition they are :
* Made from 100% Whole Grain
* Saturated Fat Free
* Cholesterol Free
* Certified Gluten Free
* Peanut Free
* Free of artificial flavors
Now lets compare how the Crunchmaster Cheezy Crisps compare to a popular name brand cheese-flavored tortilla chip (the "baked" version) that my boys love to eat.
As you can see, calorie-wise the Crunchmaster Cheezy Crisps do not differ a whole bunch from the "famous" baked cheese tortilla chips, except for the saturated fats...
However, taking a closer look at the actual ingredient lists, the comparison is quite scary...
The first thought that popped into my head when reading the label on the left (well, besides the fact that there are GMO corn and artificial colorings present) was "what on earth is disodium inosinate, and disodium guanylate?" So, for about an hour or so I searched to find articles about these ingredients. What I found disturbed me. Long story short, both of these additives are used to enhance the flavor of a product in many processed foods that can cause health problems. Since these additives have nothing to do with the Crunchmaster products, you can read more about them in this article published by HealthyBliss.net.
Needless to say, I have found a much healthier replacement for the cheddar cheese chips that my boys used to enjoy.
My boys and I loved the Crunchmaster Crisps! Which is clearly displayed in the top right section of the photo above. My youngest finished his Cheezy Crisps first and wanted to switch plates with his brother. Most rice crisp snacks that we had previously tried were often quite flavorless and bland, but not the Crunchmaster Crisps! In fact, my husband who tends to avoid gluten-free products because of the taste factor, wolfed down a handful and could not even tell the crisps were gluten-free.
Sadly, the boxes only lasted two days in our house due to the lack of self control. The Grammy Crisps were naturally the favorite (especially as a yogurt topping!), but I was impressed on how delicious the Cheezy Crisps were, they tasted almost like our favorite cheese flavored tortilla chips...without the artificial flavorings! As I had previously mentioned, I don't often purchased packaged snack items, but when I do, it usually is a box or two of Crunchmaster Crisps.
If there was anything in the world that would make this product even more incredible, my only suggestion would be that they were made from organic ingredients. Other than that...my family loves this product!
