Woolzies Wool Dryer Ball Review + GIVEAWAY!

A few years ago, after the birth of my first son, I gave up using fabric softener and dryer sheets entirely. My husband and I decided to cloth diaper our baby, and while shopping around for cloth diapers, I noticed the "do not use fabric softener" on the care tag. Of course, this made sense. Not only does fabric softener leave residue on clothing (which can cause cloth diapers to repel leading to horrible leaking issues), but contained in that residue are harmful toxins, which I have listed in my post - 8 Reasons Why I Ditched Dryer Sheets. I began to find other options...

Then I tried wool dryer balls. Prior to Woolzies, I used two other brands. The first set of four from brand (A), I fell in love with after the lanolin smell went away, but I did not see much of a difference in the reduction of static or drying time. I decided to add to my set after I read that many wool dryer ball users had sets between 6 to 8, so I bought a cheap set of 6 of brand (B) on Etsy for around $30 before shipping. Brand (B) looked like a tightly wound ball of yarn, were much harder, heavier, and were extremely loud in the dryer. My husband works from home most of the time and his office is next to the laundry room...so needless to say, these got very little use.

Recently, many of the bloggers that I follow started raving about Woolzies, and when I heard that they were looking for more bloggers to review their product, I decided to give wool dryer balls another shot.

If you are the type of person who tires of reading long reviews (but I promise to be as quick and informative as possible!), I'll admit that I am one of those people, check out this video!

What Seperates Woolzies Dryer Balls From The Rest :

Woolzies dryer balls are HUGE compared to my other set - and the best part, they actually reduce drying time! To be brutally honest, my dryer is ancient, so it takes about an hour for a load of towels to dry. Being the frugal and mother earth loving person that I am, I am not too proud of wasting that much electricity. The large load pictured above took about 45 minutes (compared to the normal 60) to dry. Better yet, a load of cotton fabrics dried in 25 minutes versus 45-50 minutes. A set of 6 XL Woolzies dryer balls did the job of my other set of 10, that cost me over $50!

They are also quite light and completely noise-free, so it does not sound like I am drying a load of rocks with my laundry.

In Addition, Woolzies Dryer Balls :

* are cloth diaper safe
* softens clothes NATURALLY!
* guaranteed to last for 1,000 loads
* handmade in Nepal from fine New Zealand wool
* are 100% safe for those who are allergic to wool and have super-sensitive skin
* help eliminate wrinkles and static
* 100% eco-friendly because wool is compostable!

Did I forget to mention that the Woolzies packaging makes a fantastic hideaway for Larry Boy? ;-)

And Now For The Price Comparison...

55 dryer sheets (chemicals & toxins included!) for $1.00 at a popular dollar store
1,000 of these would cost about $18.10.

160 free & clear dryer sheets for $7.98 from a popular eco-friendly name brand
1,000 of these would cost me approximately $49.80.

6 XL Woolzies Dry Balls - $34.95
Only $16.85 more than the super-frugal toxic option above, but my family's health is definitely worth more than that!

What is not figured into the amount of the cost is the amount saved on my electric bill, so that would clearly make Woolzies the cheaper option!

Some Helpful Tips For Reducing Static When Using Wool Dryer Balls :

* Seperate natural and synthetic fibers (which tend to cause more static)
* To refresh "static reduction" from your dryer balls, place them in a sock, run them through a wash cycle, then dry
* Make a ball from aluminum foil (the size of a Woolzie) and add to your dryer load - this will NOT damage your clothes...I have tried it and it works!
* Add 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to your second rinse cycle
* You can also make them scented with few drops of your favorite essential oil!

The Bottom Line :

I am glad that I gave wool dryer balls a second chance and tried Woolzies. I would recommend Woolzies to anyone and I am considering buying them as gifts for my friends and family, not only to help them save time and money, but also to reduce their exposure to harmful chemicals and toxins. Thank you Woolzies for giving me the opportunity to review your AMAZING product...as well as to "pay it forward" by allowing me to give away 2 sets to my readers!
