Thirsties Duo Wrap Sponsor Spotlight, Review & Giveaway - #LoveAppalachia

Thank you Thirsties for participating in the Fall 2012 Cloth Diaper Dive Giveaway & Fundraiser Event!

One of the frequent questions asked on cloth diapering pages and forums is "what is the bulletproof nighttime cloth diapering solution?" or some variation of that question. If you follow those same pages, then you know already know my response - the Thirsties Duo Wrap.

When I started cloth diapering my first child almost four years ago, I used cloth pre-folds and the nylon pants. This was the was the cheapest way to diaper, but it came with it's disadvantages. The first, every three months or so, I had to purchase another size. They were cheap, but I felt incredibly wasteful throwing them out all of the time. Second, well you could imagine what it was like to pull down a cover that was full of, well you know what I mean...

My mother was the one who introduced me to the modern cloth diapering world and told about about one-size diapers that can be adjusted to fit baby as he grows. I turned to pocket diapers, but could not seem to find one that would not leak during the night during my boys heavy-wetting stage. I turned to mommy message boards to find a better solution and to make use of the super absorbent pre-folds that I had missed so much...and then began my love for the Thirsties Duo Wraps.

My first purchase with Thirsties was the Duo Wrap cover. These come in two sizes, size one for babies weighing 6-18 lbs, and the size two for babies weighing 18-40 lbs.

Features :

* Adjustable rise snaps to fit baby as he grows (only 2 sizes are needed from birth to potty training)
* Leg gussets for superior leak protection
* Made in the USA from 100% polyester with urethane coating FREE of VOC’s, PVC, phthalates, lead, and latex.
* Available in snap or aplix hook-and-loop closures
* Currently available in 14 bright & beautiful colors and prints!

What I Love About This Diaper Cover

First and foremost, I love that the Duo Wraps have such a large size range. Here is a picture of my "Leettle" in one of his Thirsties Duo Wraps. He is about 30 lbs and still on the second rise setting, with plenty of room left to grow. He actually started wearing these covers around 16 lbs.

Thirsties products are also built to last, these covers included! Would you believe that that Duo Wrap pictured is almost 3 years old? Yes, Leettle is wearing his brother's hand-me-down covers and could easily be passed onto a third child.

Of course, I LOVE the double gussets which always provide a snug fit around the legs to prevent without leaving any red marks on baby's skin. (I apologize for the image in your head that you are about to receive)The Duo Wrap has protected my children's clothing, my furniture, etc. from some pretty severe blow-outs. To be 100% honest, during the 3 years (4 years including the size one) of use, there has NEVER been a leak issue!

The Verdict

With all of these features combined, the Thirsties Duo Wrap is a very economical cover, and I recommend it to everyone, especially those looking for a workable night-time routine.

The only improvement that I would like to see made would be the addition of another row of rise snaps and maybe a crossover snap to create a one-size cover so that two sizes would not have to be purchased. However, Thirsties products have a pretty high resale value on BST (buy/sale/trade) sites and I easily sold my son's used size ones for 75% of their original cost, so it really did not cost me much at all to upgrade to the next size.

  1. I love Thirsties Duo Wraps - they're the only wrap that I swear by - and I see why you do too! THREE YEARS! That's amazing!

  2. I have one of these and love it. It is however, too big for my little guy, but I knew that when I bought it, but he was so close to outgrowing the size 1 I just didn't want to waste the money on such a short lived product. We do still use it overnights though over some bulkier diapers and it works great. Plus - we have the scottish storm and I LOVE IT.!!!

    1. I had the same problem, which is why I would love to see a one-size cover. They are a little bulky, which can be a little annoying, but I also do not like washing my child's bedding every day.

I REALLY want the Scottish Storm...no just to convince my husband that my son needs another diaper ;-)

  6. This looks like such an awesome product! While I don't have any babies, I will be sure to pass this along to those I do know that have them or are expecting. Great review!

  7. We currently use Bumkinz for overnight because - you guessed it - those double leg gussets keep ANYTHING in! We bought those instead of Thirsties only because they were on zulily (love a good deal!) but I've been drooling over Thirsties for some time, for a variety of reasons: they're made in the USA, we use (and LOVE) their "booty love" ointment, and their prints (particularly blackbird, hoot, and the Scottish argyles) are just too cute for words! I couldn't honestly justify buying any more covers for our son and had resigned myself to going without seeing those adorable prints on a little tush, but now that I'm expecting #2... ;)

  18. I have 2 of these covers in size 1 and they're the ones I reach for first over my one-sized covers. I like that they're not one-sized because my baby's prefold and flat diapers slide around in the one-sized covers. I feel like we get a much better fit with a two-sized system. If we ever have any more babies I'll be adding more Thirsties covers to my stash. And I agree, the double gussets are marvelous for containing blowouts. Haven't had one uncontained poopsplosion since switching over to cloth.

  21. When I cloth diapered, night time leakage was one of the things that gave me the most trouble. If we ever have another one, I'll remember this tip!

  22. Your story sounds pretty much like mine. Started with flats and covers then got introduced to fitteds and Thirsties. My whole stash is now Thirsties! I actually like the two sizes because size one fits my newborns and size 2 fits my toddler (and even my preschooler!) so it has saved me from.having to buy newborn diapers and potty training and night time diapers for older kids.

  23. Also, my size ones will soon go onto baby #3, as will my size 2s when that baby gets bigger. And even with my awful water and how hard i am on my diapers (machine wash and dry everything) they are all still in awesome condition. Can't beat Thirsties quality :)
