SoftBums Sponsor Spotlight & Omni Cloth Diaper With One-Size Insert Review and Giveaway - #LoveAppalachia
As cloth diapering parents or those interested in trying cloth for the first time, we set ourselves out on a quest to find "the perfect" diaper. For me, it has to be one-size, meaning that it is meant to be used from the beginning to the end of the diapering stage. Through experience, many of us have found that there really is no "true one-size" cloth diaper. That was my belief until I discovered the SoftBums cloth diapering system.
Soft Bums offers a variety of choices to help you customize your diaper. For this review, I was sent the Omni in the "Cowies" print along with the BRAND NEW One-size Super Pod that now includes rise snaps to help create a small, medium, or large insert.
What I Love About This Diaper
What separates the SoftBums from any other one-size diaper is the unique Slide²Size (patent pending) adjustment system that actually provides the perfect fit for any baby from 6 lbs - 35 lbs, and you will not find this feature in any other adjustable cloth diaper! To give you an example of how small this diaper can get, I borrowed my "Leettle"'s stuffed Mickey Mouse that is roughly 10 1/2 inches long.
On the smallest setting, the leg opening is just a bit wider than my thumb.

Super Soft Fleece Lining
Each SoftBum diaper shell is lined with incredibly soft unbleached, hypo-allergenic fleece. This material is thick and stretchy, and dries quickly.
Among the complaints of pocket style cloth diapers, is the stuffing of the inserts, which can be a nuisance if you do not have smaller hands. The Omni offers a wide pocket opening so that inserts can be easily stuffed, if needed.
With the Omni you can also choose to snap the insert to the diaper rather than tuck the inserts inside, so there is no need to pull out wet inserts before adding to the diaper pail! The added feature of the small - large rise snaps of the One-Size Super Pod is truly a blessing! I have a couple of the older versions of the One-size Super Pods with out the snaps, and they were a little intimidating to sitters and my husband. The back side is micro-fiber and quite often did my boys get a rash because the Pod was folded the wrong way with the micro-fiber instead of the fleece touching their skin. For those of you who don't know, micro-fiber should never be touching the skin, the material is extremely absorbent and will pull moisture and natural oils from the skin, which can cause irritation. The Super Pod folding confusion is now over with the addition of the rise snaps that also help keep the insert from shifting.
Industrial Strength Velcro Closure
When the creators of the SoftBums diaper describe their diaper's velcro (aka hook and loop) closure as "industrial strength", they aren't kidding. The velcro tabs are wide and do not come unattached from the laundry tabs during wash. I could not say the same for most of the previous hook & loop diapers that I have owned in the past, the velcro usually fell apart within a few months of light use! I now own four SoftBum Omnis and they are in a rotation of about 30 diapers that had been shared by two boys, so they definitely got some wear! After about a year, they are still in good shape (example see the giraffe print pictured above). If you are not the velcro type, you can still purchase the Omni with snaps.
Super Slim Fit
Since I only use the One-size Super-Dry Pod during the day, there is no extra padding in the back to poof out the diaper. My Leettle has the width of one insert in back while the rest of the pod is folded over in front. Only at night do I use the extra smaller insert for extra absorbancy.
SoftBums also offers the Echo diaper shell, which also features the Slide²Size adjustment, but the only difference is that the Echo is a little slimmer, perfect for the more slender babies and minus the pocket that is present in the Omni. You can compare the two diapers here.
Personally, SoftBums are one the first diapers that I recommend to anyone interested in cloth diapering and believe that they are a time and money saver. The only complaint that I do have is that the fleece lining gets a little pily after a few washes, however this does not affect the diapers superb performance in any way. The SoftBums Omnis are definitely my favorites and when set the proper size, they are quite simple to use for anyone unfamiliar with this diaper.
