Bloom Organics Review - Fall In Love With Handmade Giveaway Hop #LoveHandmade

Going Green with the Grizls

I am pleased to announce that Bloom Organics Designs has agreed to sponsor my blog in the Fall In Love With Handmade Giveaway Hop! The Bloom Organic crocheted grocery bags that are featured in this review are among the favorite handmade items that I own.

Bloom Organics Designs is an Etsy shop, which opened on April of last year, and owned by a very kind woman named Danica. Her customer service is exceptional and her work is phenomenal. Each of her beautiful handmade items is constructed from cotton yarn and customized to your liking and made after you order. Most items are shipped within 10-12 days, but I had received my grocery bags within a week - extremely fast for a handmade item!

Why cloth bags?

Plastic bags are quite a waste, not only can you fit a few items or less in each bag, but they are extremely harmful to the environment. Yes, they can be recycled, but not everyone takes the time to recycle...a measly 1%!

Of course, cloth bags can be used multiple times...well, that all depends on quality. Danica's bags are extremely sturdy and well constructed. I own 5 of her handmade grocery bags and have used them for close to 4 months now, which is quite surprising because I tend to fill them with as much as possible, and with heavy items such as gallons of almond milk, cans, and bottles. In the past, I have broken at least half a dozen of the cheap $2.00 - $4.00 store brand cloth bags. I can't think of a worse way to end a grocery trip than to have a bag break, shattering bottles, breaking eggs, and exploding soda cans of my favorite stevia sweetened soda (not that cheap at $1 per can either!), within a couple of feet away from my car.

Each Organic Blooms bag measures at 9" wide x 9" tall, and will stretch to 10" wide x 12" tall after a few uses. The small size of these bags make it quite convenient to keep in any medium to large size purse, so I can always carry them with me and have my hands free at the same time.

In my medium sized shoulder bag, I can carry all 5 of my Bloom Organics bags, my make-up bag, and my overstuffed checkbook-sized wallet.

These grocery bags also feature soft cotton crocheted handles to prevent circulation cut off in your hands, nor will they leave painful and red indentations in your skin.

So how did these grocery bags hold up?

Well, I filled just one Bloom Organics bag with the following :

35 oz (24 serving) can of cheddar potato soup mix
2 lb (32 serving) can of tortilla soup mix
2 lb jar of sun dried tomatoes
26 oz jar of pasta sauce
26 oz jar of almond butter
2 15 oz cans of tomato sauce
2 14.5 oz cans of hominy
14.5 oz can of chicken noodle soup
8 oz box of gluten-free pasta
1 lb box of alphabet semolina pasta
2 8 oz single serve almond milks

*Please note that the weights listed above did not include the weight of its container.

This Bloom Organics bag held 20 lbs of items, that is 6 lbs less than my toddler! You could not hold that much in one of those plastic store bags, which would look at little something like this...

Of course, the plastic bag broke within 20 seconds of holding all of the groceries listed above.

You do not have to restrict the use of these bags to trips to the supermarket, you can take them to the library, gym, any retail store, use it as an overnight bag, diaper bag, book bag, in place of a picnic basket, etc...the possibilities are endless!

You can purchase these crocheted grocery bags from the Bloom Organics website for $7.00 each or you can save some money by purchasing them in multiple quantity sets.

Want to receive exclusive fan discounts? Be sure to follow Bloom Organics on Twitter and Facebook.

Danica has so generously offered to giveaway a set of 3 of these bags away in the Fall In Love With Handmade Giveaway Hop, which begins at 12:01 am on September 1st and ends at 11:59 pm on September 15th. Enter here!
