I woke up this morning with every intention of re-starting what I had failed last week...a juice fast.
There is a bit of controversy surrounding fasting and it's health benefits (even my mom thought that I was using it as an excuse to mask an eating disorder), but my intentions are mostly spiritual I suppose.
More than anything, I want to ingest nothing but chemical free fruits and veggies, which have not been consumed frequently. It would do my body some good to spare itself of a few packs of fruit snacks or cookies here and there, put a stop to the energy drink addiction, and meals covered in cheese. I will be teaching myself that food is simply nourishment, not for comfort.
So what is on the menu for tomorrow?
- 6 leaves of organic kale
- 4 cups packed organic spinach
- 2 organic green apples
- 1/2 cucumber
- ginger (cut in a 1/2 cube)
- 1 tsp or less of lemon juice
...looks yummy, huh? Guess what, my kids LOOOOVE it! Especially when I convinced them that it was "monster slime".
Actually this is quite good and was my substitute energy drink, which surprisingly, gave me more energy and NO crash!
I will keep you posted every weekend on how this juice fast works out...I am shooting for 4 weeks!
